Sentry Dogs

“The Sentries”

Our Caucasian Ovcharkas (AKA: Caucasian Shepherd Dog/Russian Mountain Dog), patrol the property while all are asleep at Von Krenz Bordeaux ®. The Ovcharkas are our family protectors, while they are our beloved canine companions, they are not family pets in the traditional sense, they are working dogs. Their sole mission is to keep a watchful eye about the property. They aptly protect our prize winning Dogue De Bordeauxs, the family pets (Kitty Kat included) and our assortment of prize winning pigeons as well. We do not have coyote problems that many of our rural neighbors have as our Ovcharkas run them off the property.

We chose this breed for their ability to withstand the harsh Minnesota Winters. The Ovcharkas have a multi layer coat that enables them to remain warm & comfortable even in coldest of Minnesota's winters days. While many varieties of dogs would freeze during some of our over nights temps, not the Ovcharkas, they love the cold, in fact, they much prefer winter over summer.

Mark personally picked out our Caucasians while traveling Eastern Europe on business. Over the course of many business trips, Mark learned all he could about the different working lines of this working breed. He selected a kennel that focused on the working instinct and not on the herding instinct. He also had the opportunity to catch some of the parents of our Caucasians on a working sleeve.

We do not breed the Caucasians, when one of the girls is in her cycle, she is taken out of her patrolling duties to insure she is not going to be bred by our big boy Pete.
